Borderless Currency Calculator adds a configurable currency converter to WordPress sites with the [bccalc_currency_converter] shortcode.
- Live exchange rates from the free Fawaz Ahmed Currency API. No API key is required.
- Exchange-rate responses are cached with the WordPress Transients API to reduce requests. The currency list is bundled locally so the settings page does not need a separate external request.
- Choose which currencies are available and set the default From and To currencies.

External services
This plugin connects to the Fawaz Ahmed Currency API to retrieve live currency exchange rate data. This connection is necessary to show accurate conversion results in the currency converter widget.
What is sent:
When a conversion is requested, the plugin sends a server-side HTTP GET request from your web server to the Fawaz Ahmed Currency API. The request URL contains only the lowercase base currency code (for example, usd). No visitor personal data, names, email addresses, IP addresses, or any other user-identifying information is transmitted by the plugin.
When data is sent:
A request is made when a visitor clicks “Convert” and the plugin does not have a valid cached exchange rate for the selected base currency. Exchange-rate data is cached server-side using WordPress transients for up to one hour. No request is made during plugin installation, activation, or while browsing the admin settings page.
Request method:
Requests are made server-side via PHP (using WordPress’s wp_remote_get), not from the visitor’s browser. The visitor’s browser does not contact the currency API directly.

Does this require an API key?

No. The Fawaz Ahmed Currency API does not require an API key for the exchange-rate data used by this plugin.

How are exchange rates fetched?

The plugin tries the fallback endpoint. If both endpoints fail, the converter displays an error instead of breaking the page. Previously cached rates remain available until their cache expires.

How are numbers formatted?

Converted amounts use two decimal places and comma thousands separators, for example
1,000.00. The exchange-rate line uses four decimal places, for example1 GBP = 1.3383 USD.
